Float and Tape Tank Gauge System

These instruments have been the liquid level measurement technique of the petroleum tank gauge system market for over 90 years due to their simplicity, reliability and cost.

Float and tape tank gauge system solution consists of a 2500 automatic tank gauge selected for the appropriate tank type. The instrument provides a measurement to +/- 4 mm accuracy and tank side display that is suitable for inventory management to API specifications. If control room integration and volumetric calculations are required, a tank gauge system transmitter is recommended with a 8500 STS for spot temperature measurement. The selection of the transmitter often depends on the required or existing field communications and protocols.

The automatic tank gauge combination is ATEX approved and is also able to provide optional contact outputs for triggering alarms or relays. If only an analog (4…20 mA) level output is required (without temperature) the 8200 COT can be used.

Working Principle of the Level Gauge

Level gauge consists of two parts: a magnetic indicator and a float. The magnetic indicator is composed of a red and white magnetic flipping column or a magnetic flipping card and a guard plate equipped with a small magnetic steel. When the floating ball equipped with magnetic steel moves up and down with the liquid, the beam magnetic field of the permanent magnet in the floating ball turns the magnetic turning column 180°.

When the liquid level rises, the turning column turns from white to red. It turns from red to white to indicate the height of the liquid level. (The color of the flop and the flop can be different, such as blue and red or black and white, etc.).

When it is necessary to transmit output, install a reed switch or magnetic sensor transmitter parallel to the magnetic indicator to realize the remote transmission of 4-20mA or 0-10mA current signal; equipped with a liquid level alarm switch, and The upper and lower limits of the liquid level can be alarmed.

Function and System Design of Servo Tank Gauge

Maintenance Prediction

Servo tank gauge will provide advance warning of required maintenance, such as replacement of worn wire, etc. The operating life span of electrical and mechanical parts of the servo tank gauge are factory set within the instruments memory. This information is checked with the built‐ in clock and then compared, and registered in the instrument.

Automatic Displacer Weight Compensation

The displacer can be checked for buildup or corrosion by comparing the measured weight of the displacer in the air with the pre‐ programmed displacer weight.

The servo tank gauge can be set to perform periodical checks for the displacer weight; any deviations in the weight will then be corrected and an alarm or memo initiated.

Automatic Compensation of Wire Length

When the displaceris moved from the level position to the reference point(mechanicalstop within the instrument),the calibration can be checked. If there is any deviation outside the tolerance, the instrument will emit an alarm. If the deviation is within the tolerance (set by the customer), an automatic recalibration will be done. This function can be working manually or automatically in pre‐set time intervals.

What does a density meter measure?

What is Density Meter?

Density ρ is a characteristic property of materials and indicates the relationship of mass m to volume V. It is measured in g/cm³ or kg/m³. For high-precision measurements, the most significant influencing factor is the temperature of the sample. It is essential therefore that modern density meters are equipped with efficient temperature control of the measurement room.

Digital density meter measurement using the oscillating U-tube principle

The example of a tuning fork shows that by applying a mechanical impulse one can generate a sound with a characteristic pitch. This sound is the result of the oscillation created by deflecting the prongs of the tuning fork. A determining factor in the pitch of the note obtained, and thus of the oscillating frequency, is the mass of the tuning fork.

Digital density meter measurement puts this relationship to use by means of the U-tube oscillation principle. The extremely fine capillaries are made to oscillate by a piezoelectric or magnetic transducer with a characteristic frequency.

The resulting resonant frequency of the U-tube will depend on the mass of the filled sample. This frequency can be measured very accurately and used to calculate the density meter of the sample. The physical relationship of oscillation frequency (the reciprocal of the period of oscillation) to density meter is very simple and linear.
Accordingly, calibration is only possible with two standards as a rule – air and water.

Benefits of Installing an Automatic Tank Gauge

An automatic tank gauge is an important electronic device for every gas station. Its basic function is to monitor the fuel level in the tank accurately to make sure that the tank is not leaking. It also indicates what is happening inside the tank such as the fuel level, water level and volume, temperature, and high and low fuel level warnings.

Installing an automatic tank gauge is useful for monitoring your tank at all times and other interstitial spaces in tanks and piping. There will always be an ongoing measurement of tank levels and temperature to ensure the integrity of your product and to help avoid gas leaks. Automatic tank gauge’s are the most cost-effective monetary system to check up on your tank gauge.

Here we’ll list down the benefits of Installing an Automatic Tank Gauge:

Installing an ATG is cost-efficient

Having a device that monitors the maintenance of your gas station prevents accidents from occurring. Having an automatic tank gauge is worth your investment as it ensures a safer place and guarantees protection for everyone in the vicinity. For gasoline station owners and operators, it is an investment worth knowing the everyday performance of their equipment.

An ATG will save you and the workers so much time.

Automatic tank gauge’s are excellent additions to your fleet’s maintenance. It is mostly placed above or below the tank so anyone can easily monitor the fuel or lubricant volume to assess the tank condition without having a hard time. It can also be wired or remotely accessed via a wireless modem.

Gone are the days of inaccurate, hard, and unsafe manual maintenance with automatic tank gauge you will be able to get the most accurate inventory at all times and will help minimize a loss on product contamination or tank leaks.

An ATG ensures the conservation of your equipment.

Another key benefit of installing an automatic tank gauge is the reassurance that you will always have enough gas on hand to meet your inventory needs. Automatic tank gauge systems have an alert function to help you maintain all tanks perfectly. It will automatically tell you when you need to re-order and refill.

One thing that the operators always neglect is the overall maintenance of different equipment while some even ignore leaks and aren’t alarmed by it. Nonetheless, the purpose of having an automatic tank gauge is to know that no leaks will go undetected and problems will be resolved and fixed immediately.

ATGs are continuously improving and evolving.

Now that electronic devices are gradually evolving, the automatic tank gauge also follows. It remains a software solution to help maximize time management for deliveries and inventory transparency. An automatic tank gauge aims to specifically protect your fluid inventory needs and makes you stay at ease to be able to focus your attention on customers and other business needs.

How to Check Your Propane Tank Gauge with LTD Percentage

With more time being spent at home, Blossman Gas is recommending that customers regularly monitor their propane tank level to ensure an adequate level of propane to fuel your furnace or gas appliances. Here’s how.

The frequency at which you’ll need to order propane depends on a number of factors:

  • Number of appliances using propane
  • Total size of your propane tank/s
  • Size of your home

Modern propane tanks are equipped with a tank gauge with LTD that helps you verify the level of propane left in your tank gauge with LTD. To check the tank gauge on your tank, look for a round dial that looks similar to a speedometer. Typically, it is located at the top of your propane tank gauge next to the fill pipe. The numbers on the tank gauge range from 5-95. These numbers indicate the percentage of how much your tank gauge with LTD is filled – NOT the number of gallons left in the tank gauge with LTD.

Good to note: propane tank gauge are designed to be filled to 80% of capacity. This is because gas needs room to expand with changing temperatures. A “full” propane tank gauge with LTD will read 80%.

If your tank gauge with LTD reads 30% or lower, it’s time to request a delivery! This allows enough time to get your request scheduled and delivered without the worry of running out.
